Design Miami/, Todd Merrill Studio, Miami, USA
November 30 – December 4, 2022
Design Miami/ features some of the biggest names in contemporary design, as well as noteworthy emerging designers and dealers. This year’s fair will mark the 18th edition of Design Miami/ with a special theme: “The Golden Age: Looking to the Future.” Selected by the fair’s curatorial director Maria Cristina Didero, the uniting concept expands on that of this summer’s Design Miami/ in Basel, “The Golden Age: Rooted in the Past.” The idea is to explore the stylistic and metaphorical concept of a golden age that can be a utopian, hopeful future or an idealized history.
Design Miami/ connects the world through extraordinary collectible design, with live fairs on three continents that bring together galleries, designers, brands, experts, collectors, and enthusiasts. Each edition of Design Miami/ features museum-quality 20th and 21st century furniture, lighting, and objets d’art from the world’s top, expertly vetted galleries, in addition to showcasing immersive design collaborations with celebrated brands.
Todd Merrill Studio represents a group of international artists, each with a singular vision and unprecedented point of view. In creating works of collectible design, each takes a hands-on approach intersecting contemporary design, fine art, traditional craft techniques, and pioneering innovation.
Through meticulous craftsmanship and rigorous studio experimentation, each has developed proprietary methods that break previously set inherent material limitations. Their intimate studio approach fosters an atmosphere of creativity where the work rendered significantly bears the hand of the artist. Collectively the artists are helping to create a new visual vocabulary that advances long-held, established artistic boundaries.
Todd Merrill Studio (@toddmerrillstudio) debuts a suite of furniture from artist Vadim Kibardin’s Black Paper Collection. Each one presents a unique aesthetic carved out from a range of craft processes stemming from a carboard and bleck paper.
